How to become an Aeronautical Engineer?

Aeronautical engineering is now running one of the demanding streams of engineering with broad scope of career prospects. Young aeronautical engineers get easily recruited in the field of aeronautics, space research and exploration as well as in defense. The engineers of this stream are claimed to have good aptitude in specialized and mechanical expertise. There are numerous aeronautical engineering colleges in India. There the young scholars are trained with techniques of designing, development, construction, testing, operation and maintenance of the aircraft, missiles, and satellites developed for both corporate and military purposes.

An Aeronautical Engineer is a professional who applies scientific and technological principles to exploration, design, develop, maintain and test the performance of civil and military aircraft, missiles, weapons systems, satellites and space vehicles. They also work on the different factors that make up these aircraft and systems.

Aeronautical Engineer Eligibility-

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have passed B.E./B.Tech. Aerospace Engineering. They must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in class 12th degree. Physical fitness and good vision are also mandatory.

Aeronautical Engineer needed Skills

  • Aeronautical Engineers should have logical expertise and logical mathematics must be physically fit and have a normal color vision.

  • They also require to be good at organizing, working in squads of cross-sectional skills and as similar be able to get on well with people at all levels.

  • Candidates Should be suitable to keep calm under pressure and be a problem solver like working with tools, drawing complex sketches and allowing up forms and structures.

  • They're also required to constantly update themselves with the latest inventions and technologies.

  • Aeronautical Engineers also have the qualification to express their own ideas easily to others; also be creative and logical with an eye for detail.

  • They should also develop logical problem solving skills, have excellent mathematical perfection, design skills, computer expertise, and communication skills.

  • They should also be qualified to apply the principles of science and technology to produce aircraft, factors and support equipment.

  • Candidates must also be capable of resolving issues that arise during the design, development and testing processes.

Steps to become an Aeronautical Engineer?

After completing their 12th class in science, they pass B.E./B.Tech. Aeronautical, Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering, etc. There are numerous colleges in the country that offer this type of degree and diploma courses in aeronautical engineering. Diploma holders in aircraft maintenance engineering can acquire degrees on clearing the examinations of the Aeronautical Society of India.

After graduation, they could pursue M.Tech. or PhD in Aeronautics. Aeronautical Engineering can be pursued offering the mechanical and electronics branches as specialized areas of study.

The minimum essential for sitting in the entrance test of the colleges is science subjects physics, mathematics at the 12th stage. Admission to IIT is by the Joint Entrance Test. During the course, they've to study subjects like principles of flight, aerodynamics, aircraft structure, propulsion, avionics, electronics, metrology, as well as airworthiness regulations and air traffic control. After passing the course, they've to choose an area of specialisation namely, Aerodynamics, Propulsion, Structures, Navigation and Control, Instrumentation and Communication, etc.

Aeronautical Engineer Career Prospects

  • An Aeronautical Engineer can design, test and contribute to the development of advanced technologies in the field of defence and space science.

  • They've good scope in India as they're mostly employed by Indian Space Research Organization  (ISRO)and the Defence Ministry.

  • candidates can also appear for jobs available with the Civil Aviation Department, National Aeronautical Laboratory, Defence Research and Development Laboratories and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.

  • There are numerous job openings for aeronautical engineers in countries like the United States of America, UK and Germany. A good chance of Indians constitute the workforce of engineers and specialized professionals in NASA.

  • Aeronautical/ Aerospace Engineers could also work for airlines like Air India, Indian Airlines, Jet Airways etc.
